Outside of cookie selling season, I don’t give much thought to the Girl Scouts of America. However this week, I found myself cheering when following their news story this week!
In Western Washington, an anonymous donor gave a chapter a check for $100,000- however, the gift came with the stipulation that the money needed to be returned if it would be used to support transgender girls. With 25,000 active Girl Scouts in the state of Washington, this money could have been used to fund camp for as many as 500 Girl Scouts.
The chapter upheld the national organization’s policy: “If the child is recognized by the family and school/community as a girl and lives culturally as a girl, then Girl Scouts is an organization that can serve her in a setting that is both emotionally and physically safe.”
The Girl Scouts returned the money!
Instead, a Indiegogo fundraising effort was launched to raise money for the inclusive organization. I just LOVE when GOOD triumphs, don’t you?!! As of the time of this posting, $325,902 has been raised by 6,871 people in 7 days!!! Take that, Hateful Donor!! There are 24 days left to donate…I hope you will join me in the fabulous feeling of generosity!! Please click on the link below and donate with me!!
